Return of tenancy cases back to the mamlatdar courts across the state is all set to become a reality after the forthcoming session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
the goan I networkrMARGAOrrIf Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte is to be believed, an Amendment Bill seeking return of the tenancy cases from the civil courts to mamlatdar courts will be placed before the House in the ensuing Assembly session. rHe said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has given his nod for the tabling of the Amendment to the Goa Tenancy Act, seeking to bring back all tenancy cases, which were shifted to the civil courts, back to the court of the Mamlatdar. r“I am confident that the Amendment Bill will be passed in the House in the ensuing Assembly session. The file has been moved in this direction,” he said. Khaunte, however, said that the government would ensure that the tenancy cases are disposed of by the courts in a time-bound manner. “The government has not only plans to bring back the cases to the mamlatdars from the civil courts, but we have also drawn up plans to set up designated courts to dispose of the cases in a time-bound manner,” he said. He pointed out that the process of bringing back the tenancy cases from the civil courts will start after the passing of the Amendment Bill in the ensuing session. rThe previous BJP government had taken the much-criticized decision to hand over the tenancy cases to the civil courts on the plea that thousands of cases had been pending for years in the courts of the taluka Mamlatdars for want of speedy disposal. Though the Goa Forward party and others had supported the Manohar Parrikar-led BJP government, they had insisted in the Common Minimum Programme that tenancy cases be reverted back to the taluka mamlatdars for adjudication.
