Discussions on issues regarding garbage collection, dust bins, cutting of trees, cleaning of nullhas, construction of drains etc. were held in the gram sabha of Nerul panchayat on Sunday.
The sarpanch Piedade Almeida stated that the panchayat has decided to do door to door collection of garbage on a daily basis and the contract of Rs.14 lakhs for collection of garbage will be awarded shortly to the contractor. The panchayat will distribute 2 dust bins to each household to keep dry and wet garbage separately. Panchayat has decided to charge Rs 365 per year as garbage tax to each household which will be applicable to the rented houses also. Till this contract is awarded, the panchayat will collect the garbage on Monday, Thursday and Saturday as usual by sending their garbage van, Almeida informed.
The Sarpanch further mentioned that some of the house owners were not submitting tenant verification forms to the Porvorim Police station as required under law. “The Porvorim police have therefore decided to go from house to house in the month of March 2018 to check whether house owners have submitted tenants verification forms. This forms are available in the panchayat office,” Almeida said adding that house owners should fill and submit these verification forms immediately failing which the police will take necessary legal action against the |
defaulters.
Almeida also mentioned that the panchayat has carried out a survey of shops and establishments in Nerul and was shocked to find that more than 40 percent of the shop owners have not obtained licenses from the panchayat to operate business. “The defaulters should obtain the licenses immediately to avoid legal action,” she stated.
The panchayat secretary Premand Manjrekar presented the budget estimates of the panchayat for the year 2018-19 which were approved by gram sabha after brief discussions.
