Mapusa MLA Francisco D’Souza said he would not take any posts if offered by the BJP as his dignity was at stake.
He also dispelled rumours about his resignation stating that any decision on his future will be taken after consulting his supporters.
“I don’t want anything from the party. I will not accept the post of NRI commissioner or a ministerial position. I have my dignity and if they cannot respect my dignity, I don’t want anything,” D’Souza said from the US, where he is undergoing treatment.
The Mapusa MLA was responding to a question that the government was contemplating offering him the post of NRI commissioner.
When questioned whether party leaders were in touch with him after he was sacked from the cabinet, he said that none of them have the courage to talk to him.
“I have the support from people all over Goa and I have the mandate of the people. I have the habit of doing right things at the right time. I’m not emotional in politics,” he added.
Dispelling rumours on his resignation, he said any decision on his status will be taken after talking to his supporters. “Unless I come back and talk to my people, I will not take any decision,” he said.
A WhatsApp message that D’Souza was going to resign on October 10 and that his son was going to contest the bye-election as a Congress candidate created a flutter in Mapusa on Wednesday.
“My treatment is ending on October 10. I will return if the doctors let me. As far as my son Joshua is concerned, he can decide for himself,” the Mapusa MLA said.
Earlier, The Goan contacted the MLA’s son who rubbished the rumours. “It’s completely false. In any case, my dad is not expected to arrive to Goa on October 10 and therefore the message is misleading,” Joshua D’Souza, who is a councilor in Mapusa, said.
