Cabral says not in favour of outside officer to head power dept

Commenting on the appointment of a new Chief Electrical Engineer, whose extension is coming to an end on October 31, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Saturday said he would ask Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at the October 31 cabinet meeting for a one-time relaxation in the recruitment rules and qualifications so that the posts are filled up based on seniority.  He also made it clear that he is not in favour of getting an outside officer to head the power department, saying similar experiments in the past had resulted in a lot of bad blood amongst the department officials.

While declining to give a definite reply whether the Superintending Engineer Reshma Kenkre will succeed incumbent CEE N Reddy, Cabral said that most of the top department officials are functioning as officiating engineers without much responsibility, adding in a lighter vein that only the Power Minister is working with responsibility. “There are now seven posts, including the Chief Electrical Engineer, two Additional CEEs and four SEs which can be filled up by only one SE. This is the ground reality. I do not know whether this one SE will be able to handle all the seven posts,” he added.

With CEE N N Reddy’s extension of service ending on October 31, questions are raised in power department officials whether Superintending Engineer, South, Reshma Kenkre will be appointed as a successor to the incumbent Chief Electrical Engineer.
