Navelim village will get the underground power cabling, besides other infrastructure including transformers and distribution lines as part of the measures to tone up the power infrastructure in the village.
Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said the power department will float the tender for the underground cabling facility in Navelim by June, while exuding confidence that work on the project should hopefully start by August-September. Besides, he said a project costing Rs 63 crore for replacement of old conductors and other works, in addition to underground cabling, will be implemented in Navelim village.
The Power Minister sought the cooperation of the local MLA Luizinho Faleiro, local village panchayat and the public at large towards the implementation of the project. Turning to the local MLA, Cabral said that the underground cabling project may result in the digging of roads, but hastened to reassure the MLA that the power department will take up work on the reinstatement of the damaged roads. “I have decided that henceforth the power department will take the work of reinstating the damaged roads instead of giving the work to the PWD. The road reinstatement work will be now part of the underground cabling project,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro pointed out that Navelim has already made a mark in solid waste management, even as he asked the Power Minister to help make Navelim the best panchayat as far as electricity is concerned. “You are intelligent and resourceful. You have the capacity to manage the funds,” Faleiro said, while requesting the Power Minister to provide the minimum
power infrastructure to Navelim village.
Signing of PPAs for solar power to
begin soon as code of conduct ends
MARGAO: With the Election Commission withdrawing the model code of conduct, the power department will now go about inking the Power Purchase Agreement (PPAs) with parties who have ventured into solar power under the new solar policy.
Power Minister Nilesh Cabral informed that the subsidy for all those who have ventured into solar power generation will start following after the power department signs Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with these parties.
“Let no one harbour any doubt about getting the promised subsidy. All those who had gone into solar power generation will receive the subsidy once the PPAs are signed. The disbursement of subsidy was delayed because the department could not sign the PPA with the parties because of the model code of conduct,” Cabral said, adding that the main opposition party would have accused the government of violating the model code if the PPAs were signed during the last one month.
