The transport department has issued a notice inviting tenders for the construction of the new KTC bus stand on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis.

The new bus stand project will be built on a combined area of 32,250 sq. mtrs, replacing both the existing bus stations. The last date to bid for the project is October 21.

The bus stand will be designed, built, financed, operated, and transferred as part of the PPP model.

The bus stand project has been one of the many pending and much-awaited projects in Mapusa, and despite finalising the proposed plan for the bus stand and multi-level parking, the project is yet to start.

The first phase of the new bus stand and parking project was started in February 2015. An estimated Rs 1.32 crore was spent on levelling a total area of 23,000 sq. mtrs of land.

Later in February 2024, the interstate bus stand was commissioned as an interim bus stand.

In July 2025, the Mapusa Municipal Council approved the proposed new KTC bus stand project through a PPP model.

“Since the last six years, I have been pushing for the KTC bus stand project, which has been pending since 2007. I am happy that the government has invited tenders for the Mapusa bus stand project,” said Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza.

“This task was not easy, as there were many obstacles regarding this project. I appeal to everyone to cooperate in the completion of this project.”
