VASCO: Tension ran high in Sada-Vasco late Thursday evening as hundreds of residents gathered outside the Ganesh Benzoplast Limited (GBL) tanks following news that Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) had decided to transfer naphtha cargo from MT Nu-Shi Nalini docked at Berth 8 to the GBL tanks.
Anticipating law and order problem, a huge police force led by DySP Raju Raut Dessai, Vasco PI Nilesh Rane and Mormugao PI Pravin Powar, was deployed at the site.
Residents insisted that pumping of naphtha should not be allowed at the location considering there were residential houses and two schools in the area.
The crowd dispersed from the site only when Urban Development Minister Milind Naik returned from Panaji after meeting Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
