Tension at Moti Dongor after mob thrashes man alleging kidnapping bid

MARGAO

Tension rent the air at Moti Dongor on Tuesday evening after news spread that an attempt was made to kidnap a minor boy in the locality.

A video uploaded on social media showed a mob mercilessly beating up the man before the Margao police managed to rescue and bring him to the police station.

Margao police station in-charge, PI Tulsidas Naik said they have booked the accused person, 26-year-old Mohammed Jamsher, a native of Bihar, for assault.

PI Naik informed that the accused, who is eking a living on rag picking, reportedly restrained a woman, who was going home with her child. When the woman pushed the accused down, the latter reportedly assaulted the victim on her face.

He said the police are verifying the allegation that the accused had made an abortive bid to kidnap the child.

“Right now, the police has booked the ragpicker, who stays at the Margao station road for assault”, PI Naik said, adding that the case is under investigation.
