According to Mormugao Police, supporters of Congress and BJP were campaigning at Headland Sada when there was an altercation between both the groups.
Both the groups were not ready to compromise and almost came to blows.
When the police reached the site, the situation was brought under control and leaders of the BJP and Congress were summoned to the Mormugao Police station to sort out the issue, informed police.
Police added that as the news spread in the area, a large number of supporters of Congress and BJP gathered at Mormugao Police station and there was a chaos.
However, the police again controlled the situation and managed to calm both the groups.
The police was yet to register complaint till late Sunday evening.
A large number of police force and GRP were deployed in the area to avoid further law and order situation.
According to Ponda Police, Adv Surel Tilve has complained that while he was canvassing in Durbhat area, five persons came in a car and abused him and his supporters.
Adv Tilve also complained to the flying squad that the five accused abused him and his supporters.
The flying squad rushed to the site and found the car, but the accused had fled from the spot. Later, a police complaint was filed.
