Term of Mhadei Tribunal extended by 1 more year

The term of the Mhadei interstate water dispute tribunal has been extended by one more year. The Jal Shakti (Water Resources) Ministry notified the extension of the tribunal which now will conclude on August 20 next year.

This is the third extension to the tribunal after it submitted its final award in August 2018.  

The tribunal was formed on November 10, 2010 to solve the Mhadei water dispute between Goa, Karnataka, and Maharastra.

The work of tribunal did not start for the first three years. In 2013, the tribunal started functioning and after five a gap of years the tribunal gave its award. The award was then challenged by Goa and Karnataka in the Supreme Court.
