Eminent city-based criminal lawyer, Adv Rajiv Gomes passed away on Wednesday evening, succumbing to Covid infection.
He passed away at around 8.20 pm on Wednesday at the Victor Hospital, sources informed.
The young lawyer had tested positive for Coronavirus late last month and was admitted in a private hospital. He was later shifted to the Victor Hospital and had been battling the infection since then.
Gloom descended on the city after the news of his death did the rounds on social media with city-based lawyers and friends offering their condolences.
Meanwhile, in his condolence message, Leader of Opposition, Digambar Kamat has said he is feeling devastated with the passing away of eminent lawyer, Adv. Rajiv Gomes. “My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace”, he added.’
Margao and Salcete countryside had witnessed a surge of Covid cases in the second wave, claiming a number of lives so far.
In fact, the number of active cases in the Margao Urban Health area, covering both Margao and Fatorda is nearing 3000. The health bulletin released on Wednesday has put the total number of active Covid cases to 2837. The city had witnessed around 2688 cases on Tuesday, indicating a spike of 149 cases over the last 24 hours.
