The mystery of a queer KTC ticket

MARGAO
Call it magic or mystery, a passenger, who was issued a ticket on payment of Rs 45 to travel on the Margao-Panaji KTC shuttle bus, was taken aback when he found that the ticket price was only Rs 23 and was marked half (which is for senior citizens) and “parking ticket” was also found mentioned on the same ticket.

Goacan Coordinator Roland Martins stood in a queue at the Margao KTC shuttle counter to purchase a ticket to travel to Panaji. On payment of Rs. 45, the counter clerk issued a ticket from the machine and Roland collected the same and rushed to the bus to get his seat.

“The next morning while I was clearing my purse, I noticed that the ticket that was issued to me on Thursday was for Rs 23. Moreover, it was marked “half” (which is for a senior citizen) and was also mentioned parking ticket,” he recalled.

Roland came back to the Margao shuttle counter the next day on Friday and inquired with the KTC supervisor present to explain how was it possible for the counter clerk to issue a shuttle ticket that could convert a passenger into a “senior citizen” and a “four-wheeler”.

“While the supervisor and other uniformed staff discussed and checked the machine, they said they have only three separate tickets -- One full for Rs 45, one half for Rs 23 and the third being a parking ticket,” he said.

Roland claimed that suddenly a man in plainclothes approached him and appealed to him not to make this a “big issue” as that “particular counter clerk” could lose his job.

Roland has decided to petition the KTCL Managing Director Venancio Furtado to conduct an inquiry.
