With the heart of the commercial capital under the grip of dust pollution triggered by the damaged National highway road, PWD workers are on the job to sweep the streets to keep the dust pollution at bay.
PWD workers are being deployed on the city road, almost every day to clear the loose metal along the damaged stretch.
Local residents, shop keepers as well as motorists claimed that the road sweeping exercise has hardly given any respite from the dust pollution, demanding that the PWD, National Highway immediately takes up the road restoration work.
“The exercise of sweeping the roads to keep the dust at bay is only temporary in nature. The situation further aggravates every evening due to the wear and tear on the damaged road. The only solution lies in the hot mixing of the entire stretch,” remarked a shopkeeper.
In fact, even officials pointed out that sweeping of the loose metal will not offer any permanent solution to the problem, saying the PWD will soon repair the road.
As reported by The Goan, hot-mixing of the damaged road around the Margao Municipal garden area and further towards the Margao flyover will be carried out before the onset of the next monsoons.
While the PWD has prepared estimates to carry out the work at a cost of Rs 6 crore, the work will be tendered after obtaining a green signal from the Union government.
