Burglars broke open the Radhakrishna Temple at Sakhali and decamped with cash from the fund box and other items, all worth Rs 1.83 lakh, in the wee hours of Sunday.
According to Bicholim Police, temple secretary Anil Kanekar complained that the burglars before committing the theft locked the door of the room, where the temple priest is residing, from outside and then broke open the side door of the temple. The temple priest is residing in a room situated adjacent to the temple.
The burglars stole items like two golden Galsari Mangalsutra, silver idol of Lord Mahadev, silver crown of Lord Krishna and cash from the fund box, all worth Rs 1.83 lakh, informed the police.
Police said the dog squad was pressed into service, but in vain. Police have also collected the CCTV footage and finger prints.
PSI Sridhar Kamat is investigating the case further under the guidance of PI Narayan Chimulkar.
