Age is just a number and BJP-backed candidate Catarina Xavier proved it by beginning her political journey at the age of 78 after winning elections from ward 24 in the port town.
Catarina Xavier is the mother of social worker, Caitano Xavier, who was initially backed by Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho in ward 24.
But when the new reservations had ward 24 reserved for SC women, Godinho had to change the candidature of Caitano Xavier and nominate his mother Catarina Xavier from the ward.
With Godinho having an extremely good connection with residents of ward 24, Catarina Xavier won by a huge margin of 946 votes, after securing 1281 votes and defeating her younger opponent, Adv Anisha Noronha (335 votes).
