Health Minister Vishwajit Rane voiced the urgent need for imposing a 30-day lockdown in the state to arrest the rising number of Covid deaths and new cases in Goa.
Taking to social media platforms, Rane wrote, “The time has come for Goa to go under a complete lockdown at least for a month as we cannot afford to lose more lives and I shall appeal to the Chief Minister regarding the same.”
He further said, “As much as economic activities are important, it is also important to save lives with stricter measures. Perhaps a lockdown may solve in breaking the chain. We need strict measures and SOPs along with a lockdown for 30 days.”
Before attending the emergency meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and other top officials of the government, Rane said that Goa definitely needs to go under lockdown on lines of other states like Maharashtra and Karnataka for a particular period. “More than economic activities, the lives of the people matter to us,” he insisted while hoping for support from CM Sawant.
The Health Minister disclosed that he will conduct a meeting with the Chief Secretary to chalk out an appropriate solution that will be in the best interest of the people of Goa. “Imposing a lockdown is extremely crucial at this point if we wish to break the chain,” he asserted.
Rane has also appealed to every Goan experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 to get admitted at the earliest while stating that lives are being lost due to late admission at the hospital.
