VASCO
With all three BJP-backed scoring impressive victories in their respective constituencies at the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), Vasco BJP MLA Carlos Almeida said all winning candidates of the three panels would meet and decide on the next chairperson of the council.
Attributing BJP’s success at the MMC polls to the united campaign by the three BJP legislators, Almeida said the three legislators collectively worked and the BJP won in 19 of the 25 wards in the municipality.
"I was confident that I would win all seats in my Vasco constituency, but we made some mistakes and lost three seats, but we have won overall and it is because of team efforts that we managed to sweep the council elections,” said Almeida, while speaking to reporters.
Making it clear that the MMC elections were an indicator of the forthcoming assembly polls, Almeida added: “We are 4 BJP MLAs in Mormugao taluka and I am confident that BJP will yet again have 4 BJP legislators from Mormugao taluka.”
“I now want to request Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who arrived to campaign for our candidates to take up works on the KTC bus stand soon, as assured to us, while other development works have already begun.”
“As far as the next chairperson is concerned, we will will soon have a joint meeting of all three BJP panels and BJP legislators and take the final call," said Almeida.
