At many places, roads have been completely washed out, exposing poor quality of hot-mixing of roads,” Bhike lamented. rHe said the departments concerned were not bothered about the difficulties people faced as no corrective measures were taken on various problems facing the town. r“Where is the administration in Mapusa? Why no prompt action is taken when things go wrong in the city,” he questioned while addressing a news conference in Mapusa. rThe Mapusa Congress Block chief warned that he will be forced to file cases against departments concerned if the roads were not repaired within reasonable number of days. rReferring to the poor condition of the new bus-stand site, he said the government has not even spared the tourists visiting the State. “The tourists have to walk through pools of water and muck while attempting to board intra-state buses parked at the new bus-stand site. What impression will these tourists take back on their journey back home,” he asked. rTaking a dig at the BJP’s mission to make Goa garbage-free, he said the Swachh Bharat slogans have only become a fashion for the saffron party leaders while waste goes on piling in every nook and corner of the streets. r“Can’t the leaders see the garbage piled up at every corner of the street in Mapusa? It clearly exposes the civic body’s lack of priorities. It appears door-to-door garbage collection has gone for a toss,” he said. rHe further said the civic body in its recent anti-encroachment drive has displaced some lottery vendors who have been into business for decades. r“They have not even spared a handicapped lottery vendor who was eking out a living by selling lotteries in the market. How inhuman can these people get?” the Mapusa Congress Block chief said and appealed with the council to at least allow the lottery vendors to carry on with their business. rHitting out at the councilors, he said, most of the local councilors were unconcerned about the difficulties of the people and were only interested in furthering their own interests. r“The wards in the municipality were increased to 20 to make the wards smaller in size for better administration. But the councilors hardly pay attention to people’s woes,” he said. rCongress workers, Sudhin Naik and Mahableshwar Toraskar also spoke.
