Locals of Sao-Mathias in Divar caught a thief red-handed while attempting to flee after committing theft from a house on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to The Goan, locals informed that a woman in the house raised an alarm after noticing a man fleeing with stolen cash.
“The owner of the house managed to catch the thief after a brief chase, following which the villagers gathered and gave him a sound thrashing, before handing him over to the police,” a local stated.
Old Goa police informed that the accused Saban Mohammad (30) of Delhi was arrested on charges of housebreaking and committing theft. He was produced in the court on Monday, where he was remanded for a period of seven days.
Old Goa PSI Sudin Redkar is conducting further investigations in the case.
Meanwhile, the locals informed that they were able to get more information from the accused wherein it came to light that Mohammad along with two others had come to Goa by flight from New Delhi, on Saturday.
“There’s a possibility that the other two are also planning to commit thefts in the State,” a local said.
