Burglaries are on the rise in Mapusa.
Thieves broke into six offices including a coop society late Wednesday night near the Mapusa market.
In a similar robbery attempt, thieves broke into the church premises and two shops in Cunchelim, Mapusa last week.
The head office of Milagres Cooperative Credit Society, shops and offices belonging to a couple of advocates were burgled on Wednesday.
All the six offices/shops were housed on the second floor of Rizim Plaza, a commercial building in the heart of the main market at Morod, Mapusa.
According to Mapusa Police, cash worth Rs 25,000 and three mobiles were robbed in the incident.
Thieves broke the latch and the self-lock of the head office of the Milagres Cooperative Credit Society and stole some petty cash and a mobile phone from the office.
“The thieves broke the draws, cupboards and ransacked the entire office. An office mobile and some petty cash amounting to Rs 2,413 was stolen from the office,” a spokesman of the credit society informed.
Incidentally, a robbery attempt was made in the Church of Our Lady of Flights, Cunchelim last week.
Two shops were also broken into in the vicinity.
While the burglars did not find anything in the church, some cash was robbed from the two shops.
