Third Covid care centre in Salcete; this time at Cuncolim

MARGAO
The government is opening third Covid care centre in Salcete, this time at Cuncolim, but the fate of the two Covid care centres proposed at Margao and Fatorda remains unknown.

After opening Covid care centre in Majorda in Nuvem constituency represented by Cong-turned-BJP MLA Wilfred D’Sa, followed by another at Colva in MLA Churchill Alemao’s Benaulim constituency, the third Covid care centre is set for inauguration at Cuncolim on Thursday on a request by Cong-turned-BJP MLA Clafacio Dias.

All these three care centres are being run by the government with sanction for doctors and paramedics.

The two centres proposed at Margao and Fatorda, however, are grounded for want of sanction for doctors and nurses.

While the South Goa district Collector had handed over the Nehru stadium, Fatorda and the Manohar Parrikar Indoor stadium to the Margao Municipal Council to house the proposed centres, they are yet to see light of the day.

In fact, MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes is believed to have sent a letter to the district Collector, pointing out that the two care centres have not stared functioning till date for want of doctors and paramedics.

The two centres were proposed by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and his Fatorda counterpart Vijai Sardesai for citizens from the two constituencies.

But, with the government sanction for doctors and nurses not forthcoming till date, sources said beds donated for one of the two centres has been shifted to another centre so that they are put to the intended use.

Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has asserted that the two Covid care centres will start functioning only if the government grants sanction for the doctors and nurses, fearing that he may be booked for negligence or other provisions of the IPC in the event of any eventuality in the Covid care centre run without government doctors and paramedics.
