Ex-panch of Kantem and social activist Roquezinho D'Souza said that the spring had a changing room with slab made during Portuguese rule which collapsed 15 years ago due to lack of mantainence. "We have the Three Kings Feast just on the opposite side of the road and lot of people come there. This spring site where people earlier came from far and wide could have been combined with the Three Kings Church site and could have added to the touristic attraction as place of archaeological importance if maintained," said D'Souza.
"The spring water was used for drinking purpose. Pollution board officials, who recently visited the spring, have now declared the water unfit for use. We have a lot of buildings around, the dirty water from which flows in this neglected natural spring. I will make a proposal to the Panchayat to try and restore this historic heritage site," said Panch and Dy Sarpanch of Velsao Pale Issorcim Sylvia D'Souza.
Sarpanch Henriques P D'Mello said that though the entire constituency was aware of the existence of this spring, government did not restore it. "The only road leading to this spring is a mud road and not well lit. There was fear among residents that someone may fall in the spring. Recently with the help of Zilla Panchayat member, we have build a retaining wall at the spring," informed D'Mello. "Maintaining historic sites is what Goenkarponn is all about . I hope the government takes a decision to restore such sites," said D'Mello.
