Thorough probe demanded into RTI activist attack

VASCO

Demanding a thorough investigation in the recent attack on an RTI activist, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said the attack had conveyed an impression that Goa was not safe anymore.

Addressing a news conference, NCP State President Jose Philip D’Souza said such a brazen assault in broad daylight, especially on an RTI activist, and outside a government office should not be tolerated.

He also questioned the police for their inability to nab the absconding assailants behind the attack.

“The police must investigate thoroughly and take stringent action, without which this can become a new trend depicting Goa as a crime state," said D’Souza.

D’Souza also demanded that the government takes steps to safeguard the journalists and offer them security.

"We have seen so many cases of attack and assault on people and activists. Journalists who expose illegalities and pursue justice are also very vulnerable to such attacks and there has to be protection for journalists," said D’Souza.

NCP General Secretary Sanjay Barde and Spokesperson Adv Avinash Bhosle were also present at the news conference.
