Karnataka excise officials detained a truck at the Majali check post across the State border after it was found carrying liquor worth Rs 10 lakh from Goa early Tuesday morning.
According to reports, a Karnataka excise team intercepted a truck with an Andhra Pradesh registration, as soon as it crossed the Goa border at Polem and reached the Majali check post at about 5.15 am.
The excise team found the Goa liquor neatly placed inside the carrier/containers, informed a source.
As news of the seizure spread in the area, locals were critical of the excise team at the Polem border check post for having allowed the truck to cross the border and wondered if proper checks of vehicles were being conducted at the Polem check post.
“This is not the first time that such a seizure has taken place after vehicles have crossed the Goa border. There have been many instances of Karnataka excise teams intercepting vehicles arriving from Goa and finding illegal transportation of liquor,” remarked a resident in the area.
