Of the three levels plus a terrace that is also open for parking (as seen in photographs) during the day, only the ground floor gets used up while in the night only the ground and first floors are full. Speaking to The Goan, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) chairman Nilesh Cabral admitted that though the parking lot hadn’t reached full capacity, traffic on the roads had however reduced for this time of the year.
“Since its inauguration, the entire complex has been filed up to two and half floors. It just goes to show that people are using the facility to park their vehicles in the building. Even the traffic that would usually be a problem at this time of the year in the area, isn’t a problem this year,” he said.
He also added that though the facility would be kept free of cost for a week from the day of the inauguration, pay parking in the building is yet to begin.
“The file for tendering the process of payment in the building has been sent to the secretariat but we are still waiting its approval. Till that happens, the building will be kept free of cost,” said Cabral. The parking facility was built at a cost of Rs 90 crore and covers an area of 14,611 square meters. The facility is a three-floored building with an open space on the terrace and can hold up to 465 cars. Plans for the facility also included a hop-on hop-off shuttle service, but has yet to see the light of day.
