The suspects were allegedly accepting bets on matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
On receiving reliable information that some persons were allegedly betting on the IPL cricket match between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders at a resort in Anjuna, the police raided the place at around 1 am and arrested three persons,
police said.
The raid was jointly conducted by district investigation unit along with
Anjuna Police.
Police have recovered 11 mobile phones, two laptops, an LED TV, a set-top box and Rs 15,270 in cash.
Those arrested were Kiransinh Vaghela (32), Jayanti Vaghela (33), both of Ahmedabad-Gujarat and Narendra Singh Yadav (33) of Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
“The three bookies were operating in Goa for the last five days and accepting bets,” Anjuna PI, Raul
Parab informed.
Sources disclosed the three used to come to Goa every year during the IPL matches and conduct their operation from different locations.
The accused have been arrested under Section 420 r/w 34 of the IPC and Sections 3 & 4 of the Goa Prevention of Gambling Act.
The accused were produced before a Mapusa court on Tuesday evening which later remanded them to two days police custody. Anjuna Police is investigating the case further.
