Three K’taka men held at Margao with ‘burglary’ tools

2 others who fled spotted behind KTC terminus

MARGAO
Margao police late Friday night nabbed three natives of Bellary-Karnataka, while two managed to give the police a slip, behind the KTC bus stand, Margao, with the police exuding confidence of achieving a breakthrough in the spate of burglaries reported in the city in recent times.
The police claimed they have recovered from the possession of the accused persons items such as a knife, screw drivers, rods, hammers, gloves, etc.
Acting on a tip off that five persons were spotted on the isolated bandh behind the KTC bus stand at around 1.30 am, a Margao police team swooped down on the miscreants, managing to nab three, with the remaining two accused escaping under the cover of darkness.
Margao PI C L Patil told the media that three persons from Bellary-Karnataka have a history of indulging in burglaries, adding that thorough interrogation of the accused will help unravel their involvement in the property offence.
"They have confessed their involvement in a burglary at Housing board some eight months. As far as the other cases are concerned, they have been trying to dodge the police by saying that they have not actually committed the crimes, but have lent their support," PI Patil said.
The trio have been remanded to six days police custody by a local court here on Saturday and the police hope that the accused confess of their involvement in the spate of burglaries.
Meanwhile, PI Patil has requested the residents of the city to cooperate with the police force to nab the burglars involved in the spate of thefts. PI Patil lamented that he along with around 15 policemen had descended at Madel Friday night, but the occupants of the building were non-cooperative when the asked them to show the way to the building terrace.
"We had information that an alleged thief was holed up in the building, but we could not lay our hands on the thief because of delay of around 20 minutes as the residents did not cooperate," he lamented.
