Three-member Dabolim family commits suicide

Man hangs self at Padi, wife & son jump into Karwar river

A three-member family from Dabolim comprising of husband, wife and their 12-year old son allegedly ended their lives by committing suicide.

While the 44-year old wife and 12-year old committed suicide by jumping into the river at Karwar late Wednesday night, the husband Sham Patil, aged 50 years, ended his life by hanging at Padi village in the jurisdiction of Cuncolim police station.

Cuncolim police station in-charge, PI Tukaram Chawan informed that the police at Karwar have fished out the bodies of the wife and the 12-year old on Thursday morning. He said the body of deceased Sham Patil, which was found hanging at Padi village has been shifted to the South Goa District Hospital on Thursday for post mortem examination.

PI Chawan informed that preliminary inquiries have revealed that the trio has ended their lives by suicide because of alleged financial crisis.

He said the Cuncolim police received information on Thursday morning from one Rajesh Shetty informing that a person committed suicide by hanging at Padi village. “When we visited the spot at Padi, we noticed a male person committed suicide by hanging with the help of nylon rope by tying to the branch of a tree,” he said.

PI Chawan informed that enquiries conducted with the nephew of the deceased namely Viraj Naik who identified the body to be of his uncle Sham Patil, a businessman by occupation, resident of Matvem-Dabolim and a native of Gokshita-Karwar. 

“The nephew stated that on June 28 at around 20:30 hours, the deceased left his residence along with his wife and minor son in his vehicle to proceed to Karwar and while returning to Goa, he sent a voice message to his close friend Rajkumar Goni and brother-in-law Sachin Naik, stating that his wife and son have committed suicide at Karwar and now he is committing suicide, due to financial crisis,” PI Chawan stated.

He said the Cuncolim police have conducted a panchanama and inquest panchanama in presence of two panch witnesses. He said the dead body has been preserved at South Goa District Hospital, Margao.
