Ticket woes: Tawadkar blames it on some party leaders

Mindful that his political reputation has been scarred by the BJP’s decision to keep him on hold for the party ticket, an unhappy Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar has blamed the situation on “certain section of leadership in the state.”

“The creation of this situation has taken place within the party. A certain section of leadership in the state is lobbying for this, but they will not succeed,” said Tawadkar.
“While I have no doubt that my name will be cleared whenever a decision is taken, I feel the situation is also due to the involvement of some of our own local people.”
“There is nothing against me in the party nor anywhere, but the second person who has never been in the party for entire last term has suddenly popped up and his candidature is being lobbied by a certain section (within the party) in the most unnecessary manner,” Tawadkar added.
Seeking to remind his leaders that he has been a party loyalist, Tawadkar added: “The party has the highest respect for loyalists.”
Maintaining a brave face, Tawadkar insisted that the delay in his candidature would not affect the BJP from wining in Canacona constituency. “We have already begun campaigning without losing any time and so, it hardly matters when the nomination comes,” said Tawadkar.
What would also have angered Tawadkar is that the BJP leadership on Sunday cleared candidature of Prakash Velip
for Quepem constituency, even though Tawadkar had gone on record to state in the past that young blood should be given the party ticket instead of Velip.
Incidentally, the fact that Tawadkar is being isolated by the State leadership was evident as he was not a member of the BJP core committee to shortlist candidates, a post he had held during the 2012 Assembly elections.
