MARGAO
The Margao police have nabbed Tiger Raja Talwar and three members of his gang, who were wanted in murder attempt of Maqbool Khan alias “builder”, in Yellapur,
Karnataka.
One gang member was arrested on Tuesday in Goa, thus taking the total arrests in the case to five. Two are still on the run. The seven, including Talwar, were involved in the deadly attack on Maqbool, who is battling for life at the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim.
Margao PI Kapil Nayak told the media on Wednesday that a police team led by PSI Suraj Gauns has managed to nab Tiger Raja Talwar and three others from Yellapur in Karnataka late Tuesday night. Police have exuded confidence of nabbing the remaining two at the earliest. PI Kapil said the accused persons, Tiger Raja Talwar, Vipul Pattari, Sadiq Shaikh, Damodar Janappa Naik and Manjunath Data Talwar are all in custody of the Margao police and have been booked for attempt to murder.
He said the groups headed by Tiger Raja Talwar and Maqbool “builder” Khan had previous enmity and were involved in a running battle over the last few months. “There are criminal cases pending against Raja Talwar as well as Maqbool,he said and added, “Members of the Talwar gang had fled to Yellapur-Karnataka after the police were on their hot chase in Margao and surrounding areas.”
To a query, PI Kapil said the police had recently moved the South Goa District Magistrate to book Tiger Raja Talwar under the National Security Act and the proceedings are pending before the Magistrate.
Meanwhile, victim Maqbool’s parents and brother told the media that the police inaction against Tiger Talwar had only emboldened the latter to launch the murderous assault. “Talwar and his group had attacked Maqbool at his residence some four months ago, but there was no stringent action. Two months ago, Maqbool had approached the Margao police complaining of threats issued by Tiger Raja, but there was no police action,” Maqbool’s parents told the media outside the police station, as they pleaded with the police to ensure that the accused persons do not get bail.
Asked to comment on the allegations made by the victim’s parents, the PI said the police had summoned both Tiger and Maqbool and were let off after a stern warning.
