Once beaten, the beleaguered grand old party is taking no chances to keep its flock together from being poached, as all 14 Congress MLAs have been shepherded into a resort along the Calangute-Candolim beach belt since Wednesday evening.

All the Congress legislators have been housed in the Silver Sands Holiday Village in Candolim, which belongs to former Calangute MLA and Congress General Secretary, Agnelo Fernandes.

“All the 14 MLAs have been staying in my resort since yesterday. Today being Dussehra, some went out to meet their well-wishers and returned,” Fernandes told The Goan.

He, however, refrained to disclose till when the legislators would remain in his resort.

When The Goan contacted Tivim MLA Nilkant Halarnkar at around 3 pm, he said he was on his way to pay a condolence visit in Assonora.

“I am on my way to Assonora for a condolence visit,” said Halarnkar, refusing to admit whether he and his colleagues were putting up at the Candolim resort.

Congress faced a major embarrassment after the ruling BJP managed to woo two of its MLAs “ Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte “ who resigned as members of the House on Tuesday and then joined the saffron party.

Fancying its chances and believing that they are still in the reckoning when it comes to the number game, the party cannot afford losing another of its MLAs.
