Authorities conducted a joint inspection at Dabolim Airport on Saturday afternoon, to resolve parking issues of the black yellow taxis under the United Taximen Union (UTU) at Goa Dabolim Airport.

South Goa Collector Tariq Thomas, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, SP Arvind Gawas, DySP Subodh Shirvoikar, DySP Sunita Sawant, Mormugao Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu Airport Director BCH Negi and UTU advisor Adv Herculano Dorado was present for the inspection.

Adv Dourado informed that a few days back, the UTU were allotted parking space below the grade separator, but since the works were going on, the yellow black taxis were advised to shift further.

Dourado said the parking slots near the arrival gate

of the Airport were sometimes occupied by the Goa Miles App taxis and Taj Tours taxis, which caused further inconvenience to the Black Yellow taxis operating at the airport.

After the inspection, the UTU members were assured that the area allotted to them as temporary arrangements, would be completed within seven days.

The UTU members were also assured that parking slots near the airport arrival gate would be given only for black and yellow taxis.

“The UTU taximen have been asked to shift further

as the plot is not developed and they have assured that they would make it ready within 7 days. They have also rearranged the parking place for our taxis near the arrival gate and assured that the parking would not be allowed for any other taxis,” said Dourado.

“This is the present solution and we will have to adjust to move forward in this situation. We have suggested that they should divert the arrival road to the other side so that passengers can use it and a single road should not be used for arrivals and departures,”said Dourado.

Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said though the UTU taximen had demanded a written assurance, but it could not be given to them.

“There has been a lot of discussion but many things cannot be 100 percent. The area allotted to taxi operators has to be ready before they can use it, but they have

been promised that the needful will be done within a week. I have also requested authorities to ensure that the 15 slots provided to Yellow black taxis near the arrival gate be made permanent,” said Saldanha.
