Tika Utsav for 18-45 years: Good response on day 1

MARGAO
The Tika Utsav for the age group 18-45 kicked off in Margao on Sunday on an encouraging note with over 1500 persons turning up at the six centres to take the anti-Covid vaccine dose.

The vaccination at the TB hospital atop Monte Hill saw around 372 persons taking the anti- Covid vaccine jab, around 1251 persons took the jab from five other centres in the city, including the Margao Urban Health centre, Multipurpose Borda, Adarsh high school, Popular high school and the BPS club.

Barring around 50 persons, who belonged to the other category of beneficiaries, the overwhelmingly majority of the persons hail from the 18-45 group, sending positive signals over the response from the people.

Margao Urban Health Officer, Dr Anju Kharangate told The Goan that all the five centers coming under the UHC registered good response on day one of the Tika Utsav. “A total of 1251 persons have taken the anti- Covid dose on Sunday at the five centres. Majority of the beneficiaries were persons in the age group of 18-45. Only a handful of people were beneficiaries from other categories”, he added.

The rush of people on day one of the Tika Utsav vaccination in Margao has only raised hopes that the vaccination for the 18-45 age group will evoke better response.

Dr Kharangate informed that this is the first time in over a month that the Margao Urban Health centre has seen a rush of people for the vaccination.

The situation at the TB hospital atop Monte Hill was no different. Nodal officer Dr Ira Almeida informed that around 372 persons turned up for the vaccination on Sunday, saying that opening of the vaccination for the 18-45 age group has evoked encouraging response. “Out of the 372 persons, only 30-odd persons were belonging to the other category of beneficiaries”, Dr Ira added.
