CURCHOREM
The residents put forth their list of demands at a meeting with the Quepem Deputy Collector Shankar Gaonkar in the presence of Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai, police officials and mines department representatives.
During the meeting, the locals raised the issue of rash movement of heavy mining traffic along the Tilamol junction, Curchorem and Quepem area.
They claimed that the two deaths on Wednesday was primarily on account of rash and reckless movement of mining trucks and lack of a dedicated bypass road for ore transportation.
The locals also insisted on permanent presence of traffic police at the Tilamol junction, shifting the Tilamol bus stop away from the main road and to mark the stretch of road from Tilamol junction to Ambedkar circle Curchorem as an accident-prone zone.
The locals demanded the suspension of ore transportation along the present route till a separate bypass is constructed for mining traffic.
While accepting their charter of demands in the form of a memorandum, Deputy Collector Shankar Gaonkar assured to forward their demands to higher authorities for consideration.
Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral said he would take a decision on the construction of a bypass after consulting the people from Curchorem constituency in this regard.
