Tilting towards NDA? Rumour says Vijai

PANAJI

Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief and Fatorda MLA, Vijai Sardesai, has scotched reports that could possibly switch allegiance and tie up with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“I am making it very clear. I am where I am. There is no change in circumstances whatsoever,” Sardesai told The Goan.

The former minister, who is a vocal critic of the government in the Goa legislative assembly, alleged that some people in the ruling party are spreading these rumours perhaps to blunt his performance in the budget session slated to begin on February 2.

“No discussion whatsoever has taken place. No one has spoken to me,” Sardesai said when asked if any leader of the BJP has approached him for his support for the Lok Sabha polls.

Sardesai said the purpose of the ruling party to put out these rumours may be to disarm him from a role in the Opposition during the budget session by creating a perception that he is one of them (ruling side).

The GFP chief also said that the rumours may have got some credence because of his involvement in the government’s search for a temporary alternative for the KTC Margao bus stand which will be used as the venue for the public function to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 6.

Sardesai said he got involved because it is his Fatorda constituency and the government wanted to use the land formerly acquired for the ‘truck terminus’ but which locals are vociferously opposed.

“I have suggested another alternative site to temporarily locate the bus stand during the PM’s visit,” he said.
