Six MLAs in the State have failed to submit details of their assets to the Lokayukta for financial year ending March 31, 2016.
Of the 40 MLAs in the State Legislative Assembly, six MLAs - Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate, St Cruz MLA Atanasio Monserrate, Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar and St Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh “ have failed to disclose their assets and liabilities, which were required to be filed before June 30, 2016.
“However, despite publishing a press note to this effect in two local daily newspapers by Institution of Goa Lokayukta, some of the public functionaries had not submitted their statements within the stipulated time. Consequent upon the failure to submit the statements by the concerned public functionaries, a report dated July 7, 2016 was sent to the Governor as required under Section 21 (2) of the Goa Lokayukta Act, 2011 and a copy of such report was sent to the concerned public functionaries”, stated the State Government.
Furthermore, the concerned public functionaries were required to submit their statements of assets and liabilities within two months from the date of receipt of the report.
“On non-compliance of the above requirements, the Lokayukta shall publish or cause to be published the names of such public functionaries in two newspapers having wide circulation in the State with a report to the Governor, as mandated under sub-section (2) of Section 21 of Goa Lokayukta Act, 2011”, said the State Government.
Incidentally, during the recent monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly, it was revealed that 12 MLAs had not declared statement of their assets and liabilities within the stipulated time.
