Congress launched an all out attack against the BJP on Sunday appealing to people to defeat defectors Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte in the upcoming by-poll to bring a stable government in the State.

Addressing a public meeting at Mandrem, Congress observer Chellakumar said it is time to throw out the ‘sick’ BJP-led government. He said BJP leaders had stooped to an all-time low and were now using money power to lure Congress MLAs. “BJP is a party which purchases MLAs with money”, he alleged.

Chellakumar was speaking at a jam-packed Mandrem High School hall on Sunday. The meeting had a tremendous response compared to the earlier meetings held by other leaders.

Criticising the government over its failure on the development front, he said the constituencies represented by the opposition Congress leaders were purposely left out and were not sanctioned funds for development.

“BJP leaders are fooling Goans with the lofty promises”, he said even as he cited the rising prices of petrol and diesel.

Prime minister Narendra Modi had promised to 4 crore new jobs, but he should answer whether he has provided even 10 per cent of that.

Urging people to teach BJP a lesson, he said all defectors should be defeated in the ensuing by-polls.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar, former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Congress spokesperson Jitendra Desprabhu, Thivim MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar, former Minister Sangita Parab, Goa Pradesh Congress vice president Babi Bagkar, secretary Subhash Kerkar, Youth leader Sachin Parab, Vijay Bhike, Vaishali Shetgaonkar also spoke at the meeting.

Sangita Parab, Ramakant Khalap, Babi Bagkar and Sachin Parab said all Congress workers will work unitedly for the victory of Congress candidate irrespective of who would be given the ticket.

Attacking the BJP, Khalap explained how he was harassed by the saffron party by denying grants for his Mandrem College.

Sachin Parab said that Congress is receiving a huge response in the constituency which can be seen from the presence of people at the meetings.

Girish Chodankar appealed to people of Mandrem to choose their  candidate. “The person who is a loyal soldier of a party will be given a  ticket for upcoming by-poll elections”, he said.

He alleged that Sopte has sold his MLAship to Amit Shah... Mandrem people now have a golden opportunity to show defectors their real place, he added.

Launching a veiled attack on Parsekar, Digambar Kamat said people of Mandrem had made history by throwing out the ex-chief minister and now will again create history by defeating the defectors.
