Tito set to take charge as MMC Vice-chairperson

the goan I networkrMARGAO rrChief of Goa Forward Party ST front and son of veteran Congress leader and former councillor, Tito’s election as the new MMC Vice-chairperson on Tuesday morning is a foregone conclusion since the presiding officer has received his lone nomination for the post, left vacant by the resignation of Doris Texeira. rThat the Goa Forward and BJP-backed councillors were firmly behind Tito’s candidature became evident when his name was proposed by councillors belonging to both the camps. Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai, BJP councillor Rupesh Mahatme, besides Pooja Naik and Raju Shirodkar descended on the District Collectorate on Monday noon to propose Tito’s candidature. rIn the meantime, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai while extending his wishes to Cardozo said he has kept his pre-poll commitment to ensure that ST representation in the civic body. “I wish Goa Forward party’s ST Front Chief Cardozo all the very best and hope that he will work to get the civic administration back on track. The government will wholeheartedly support the council,” Sardesai said in a statement. rHe thanked all the councillors for their consensus on Tito’s candidature for the betterment of the city. The minister assured them no injustice will be done to anybody by the council which is now led by Goa Forward. rTito, who is a two-time councillor, was the natural choice of the TCP Minster after the seat was left vacant by the resignation of then Vice-chairperson Doris Texeira to maintain the delicate balance of power in the civic body. rThough BJP leader and party-backed two-time councillor Rupesh Mahatme had set his eyes on the vacant post, his interest was protected by the TCP Minister by rappointing him as member of the South Goa Planning rand Development Authority (SGPDA).
