Colvale Police arrested a resident of Tivim who owns a garage for stealing bikes and recovered four two-wheelers and two four-wheelers from his possession.
The accused, Jitendra Toraskar (40) is a resident of Palni-vaddo, Tivim.
According to police, complainant Vinayak Kadam of Panaji had lodged a complaint that some unknown persons committed theft of his Yamaha motorcycle parked in Tivim on January 25.
Acting on complaint, Colvale Police conducted an investigation and zeroed on the accused and recovered the stolen motorcycle.
Later during the investigation the accused spilled the beans which led to police to recover a Nano car, one Omni car, three Hero Honda motorcycles, an Activa scooter, seven two-wheeler engines and two motorcycle petrol tanks.
All the seized property is worth Rs 6.50 lakh.
According to police, the modus operandi of the accused was to steal the vehicles from abandoned areas and later modify them in his garage styled as “Shantadurga Garage” in Tivim by fixing fake number plates.
Colvale PI Somnath Mahajik, PSI Mandar Parab, ASI Rohidas Naik, HC Rama Naik, PCs Sulesh Naik and Sajo Dessai took part in the operation to nab the accused. Colvale Police are investigating further.
