In a dramatic breakthrough, Colvale Police arrested a key suspect in a sensational Rs 1.5 crore burglary that has shocked a prominent family in Tivim.
The crime, which police believe was masterminded with the help of an insider, has exposed a disturbing betrayal of trust.
Police identified the arrested accused as Kabir Pradhan, a close friend of the family’s grandchild, who allegedly leveraged his familiarity with the household to execute the break-in. According to police sources, Pradhan had been a frequent visitor and was aware that a substantial amount of cash was stored inside the residence.
Police said the accused confessed during questioning, revealing that he did not act alone.
The hunt is now on for at least one accomplice believed to have been involved in the theft.
Police officials are piecing together movement patterns, phone records and possible getaway routes as the probe widens.
While police have withheld specifics of the stolen items and the precise manner in which the break-in occurred — citing the ongoing investigation — they confirmed that Rs 7 lakh has so far been recovered.
Efforts are underway to trace the remaining amount.
“More arrests are likely,” a senior police official indicated, adding that teams were working to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the robbery.
