TMC exposes poor condition of Khazan land in St Andre

PANAJI

Hitting out at the mismanagement of the BJP in St Andre constituency, Goa TMC leader Rama Kankonkar and AITC Rajya Sabha MP Jawhar Sircar addressed the media on Saturday in Siridao.

In a press release, TMC stated that Rama Kankonkar highlighted two key issues of the St Andre constituency. He exposed the pitiable condition of the Khazan land and took a dig at the ruling BJP for the rise in unemployment in the constituency.

Speaking on Khazan lands, he said, “Despite having the highest number of Khazan lands across Goa, the present condition of the land is distressing. Even though farmers have repeatedly raised the issue, there has not been any solution till date.”

He slammed the building of illegal floating cottages on Khazan lands.

He said, "Every Goan knows what they are doing on the pretext of agritourism. Khazan lands are for the purpose of cultivation and not for extortion."

Throwing a volley of questions at the BJP over unemployment, Kankonkar asked Health Minister why had he provided jobs at Goa Medical College to the people of Valpoi instead of St Andre. Calling it as an injustice meted out to the people of his constituency, he said,  "We are not against the people of Valpoi but we are looking for equality in all 40 constituencies.”

AITC MP Rajya Sabha Jawhar Sircar also highlighted the Goa Medical College job fiasco and said, “Injustice has been done here in St Andre as all the jobs for GMC have been announced for outsiders and not for locals. This is not desirable and equitable and I’ve noticed that people are leaving farming which again results in unemployment.”
