MARGAO
Condemning attempts made by a group of people to create tension on the eve of the novenas of the feast of St Joseph Vaz at Sancoale, Trinamool Congress Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Saturday made a fervent plea to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to nip such communal tendencies in the bud.
Addressing the media, Churchill appealed to the Chief Minister to take action against the group of persons, saying inaction on these elements would divide the people of Goa on the communal lines.
“The government should take action against this group of persons since they have threatened to take the law and order in their hands. People of Sancoale in particular and Goans, in general, have been living peacefully over the years. But, actions by such groups will spoil the peace and communal harmony Goa is known all over the country and the world”, he said.
Playing a video of the threats issued to the authorities by the group to act by January 7 and also stop the sale of meat near the religious place at Sancoale, Churchill said it is surprising that the authorities have not acted against such elements till date.
“I appeal to the Chief Minister with folded hands to take action and maintain peace and harmony in the state”, he added.
