With the Trinamool Congress stitching an alliance with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party to fight the ensuing assembly polls, political observers say it is just a matter of time before the Mamata Didi party returns to minority Salcete ahead of the coming polls.
Believing in the time-tested mantra of garnering minority votes of the majority community and majority votes of the minority community, which paid rich dividends and stopped the saffron juggernaut in West Bengal, observers say the tie-up with the MGP is a step in the direction, which would help the Mamata Didi party to create a feel-good factor in the areas of majority community before the party descends on the minority strongholds to project itself as the only alternative to the Congress.
So far, the TMC has gone about building the party step by step after roping in Congress veteran Luizinho Faleiro in the party. Since then, the TMC has been making its presence felt around Saxtti countryside, inducting new members and launching the party campaign in areas such as Cuncolim, Velim and Benaulim.
Observers, however, say the TMC now appears bracing up to take off in crucial Salcete in a big way where as many as eight out of the 40 Assembly seats are at stake. “We will have to wait and see how many new leaders from Salcete formally join the TMC during Mamata Didi’s visit to Goa early next week,” remarked an observer.
