Four persons were arrested by Mapusa Police for abduction of a 32-year-old PWD contractor and trying to extort money from him.
All the accused have been remanded to four days of police custody.
Those arrested were Saheer Anas, a resident of Moira but a native of Kerala, Sairaj Shirodkar of Nachinola, Rohit Toraskar of Santarxette, Aldona and Rupesh Gular Vishwakarma of Sangolda.
According to the complainant, Latif Abdul Moula, a PWD contractor and resident of Peddem, Mapusa, the accused abducted him and demanded a sum of Rs 30 lakh from him.
Police informed that the main accused Saheer Anas called the complainant near the Tar Bridge on Sunday morning (Dec 5).
The accused was known to the complainant.
When the complainant went to meet the accused at the designated spot with his car, the accused along with others moved around the town in the complainant’s car and abused and threatened him to pay up Rs 30 lakh if he wanted to do business in Goa.
Later they released the complainant but went off with his car with a warning that he should arrange the money the next day.
While conducting the investigation, Mapusa Police first tracked the main accused and later nabbed the other three co-accused.
Police have recovered the complainant’s Hyundai Creta vehicle from the accused.
