It’s official. Only the Supreme Court of India can bail out the Margao Municipal Council in the registration of the three BS4 compliant trucks purchased by the civic body before the BS6 compliant regime came into force in April 2020.
The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has told the civic body in clear terms to knock the doors of the Supreme Court to get the three trucks, estimated to have cost the MMC a whopping Rs 35-odd lakh, registered with the transport department.
Given the situation, the MMC is now in the process of engaging a lawyer in the Supreme Court to file a petition and explore the possibility of getting the three trucks registered with the transport department so t hat they are put to use for solid waste management.
CO Agnelo Fernandes informed that the MMC would consult its High Court lawyer on how to go about the matter. “We will find out a solution to the issue since the NIC has made it clear that the option left is to move the SC to register the vehicles”, he added.
The MMC had purchased the three vehicles for solid waste management before the BS6 compliant regime came into force in April 2020. However, for reasons best known to the authorities, the vehicles were not registered with the transport department.
