After the release of its manifesto, TMC on Wednesday reiterated the party’s commitment towards safeguarding Goa’s culture, heritage and tourism.
TMC National Vice-President Pavan Varma, Goa TMC Vice-President Shivdas Naik and Goa TMC Secretary Armando Gonsalves promised to uphold the inclusive and diverse culture of Goa at a press conference held at the party office in Panaji on Wednesday, stated a press release.
Criticising the divisive politics played by the BJP government, both at the Centre and State, Pavan Varma said, "Goa has a unique culture and heritage. We propose to take institutional steps to preserve the uniqueness of Goan culture, the spirit of Goa and Goemkarponn. The BJP has a model of the cultural monolith which goes against the vibrant plurality of Goa."
He further added, "The Congress has an institutional indifference to culture."
Reiterating TMC’s vision for Goa, Varma said, "We believe that politics may come and go, but the culture and spirit of Goa, of co-existence, plurality, harmony, friendship and faith, we are committed to preserving it and allowing it to flourish."
On similar lines, Shivdas Naik said, "I am elated to announce that the TMC has promised funds worth Rs 25 lakh for the preservation and maintenance of all Goan heritage sites. The party is sincere in expanding Goa’s tourism sector and safeguarding the cultural, ecological and heritage hotspots across the State. In fact, after coming to power, the TMC will identify these hotspots and develop them into Tourism Circuits."
Highlighting another key point, Armando Gonsalves said, "Goa’s tourism sector has been made synonymous with casinos and bars, but we must redirect our attention towards safeguarding the philosophy of Goemkarponn. We can build areas of Goa Velha and Agassaim into cultural hotspots."
Concluding, Pavan Varma attacked the BJP for thinking that they have a monopoly over Hinduism, the release adds.
He said, "It will be a huge attack on the identity of Goa if you see it from the prism of religious division and hatred. BJP envisions a cultural monolith. They are using Hinduism for their short-term political gains. They are not pro-Hindu."
