Citizen’s journalism can be voice of voiceless: Fernandes

Citizen’s journalism can be voice of voiceless: Fernandes

PANAJI

Citizen’s Journalism concept that started two decades ago has now gained popularity as the voice of the voiceless and people should involve in this type of journalism, suggested senior journalist Joaquim Fernandes while speaking as the keynote speaker on the occasion of Konkani Journalism Day (February 2) at Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA)’s Reginald Fernandes conference hall in Panaji.

Joaquim further said that journalism is the tool of giving news to the public. In the said Citizen’s Journalism, the people write about their problems they see around them. “Reporters from the city have no time to look into the matters of interior parts of villages, hence citizen’s journalism helps in focusing on the challenging news. However, there is also a risk of getting fake news which needs to be scrutinized and truth highlighted,” warned Joaquim.

While speaking as the host of the programme, DKA president Vincy Quadros made an appeal to the government of Goa to observe all Konkani Days. Vincy also briefed about ‘Udentichem Sallok’ the first Konkani periodical published by Eduardo Bruno de Souza in the year 1889. DKA treasurer Celso Fernades proposed the vote of thanks. The programme can be viewed on DKA's YouTube Channel.
