Goa University has indicated that it will go ahead with conducting examinations in the offline mode for students of the final year pursuing undergraduate courses from February 16 onwards.
The counsel for the University told a bench of the Bombay High Court hearing a petition of groups of students seeking deferment or online mode examinations that it intends to hold them in offline mode from February 16.
The bench of Justices Mahesh Sonak and RN Laddha was also informed that abiding by the recommendations of the State Expert Committee on Covid, it has decided to hold the examination on February 16 instead of the earlier decision to conduct them from February 7.
Goa University had initially fixed the exams from January 17 but deferred them to February 7 after groups of students knocked on the doors of the High Court seeking either postponement or directions to hold it in the online mode.
Counsel for the petitioners also raised fears that the assembly elections slated to be held on February 14, where lakhs of voters are expected to exercise their franchise, could be a super-spreader.
However, the High Court bench opined that Goa University would be sensitive to the issue and advised students to vote when crowds at polling booths are low.
