In a significant decision, the All Goa Toddy Tappers Association has resolved not to issue caste certificates to individuals intending to contest elections once the election code of conduct comes into force.
Addressing the media, Association President Francisco Fernandes further stated that the Association has resolved to write to the Welfare Board to release the compensation due to its members, which has been pending for a long time.
Stating that the Toddy Tappers received OBC status around 14 years ago, the president mentioned that caste certificates will not be issued to applicants after the election code of conduct comes into force. However, he hastened to add that this decision would not apply to applicants seeking caste certificates for the purposes of admissions, scholarships, and employment.
Pointing out that a significant number of compensation applications from Toddy Tappers are pending with the Welfare Board, Francisco said the Association would approach the Welfare Board, which is headed by MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, to expedite the release of compensation.
