Top cop reviews progress of probe into Fatorda attack

MARGAO
Director General of Police Mukesh Kumar Meena on Friday reviewed the progress of the ongoing investigations in the armed attack on history-sheeter Sheikh Anwar alias Tiger Anwar, even as no further arrests have been effected by the Fatorda police till date.

The DGP descended at the Fatorda police station on Friday noon and went into a huddle with district police chief, SP Pankaj Kumar Singh, DySP Harish Madkaikar, Fatorda Police station in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak and reviewed the ongoing investigations in the case.

The police officers are believed to have briefed the DGP on the investigations conducted so far and the efforts being put in by the police teams to nab the remaining accused persons, including the accused who had fired on Tiger Anwar.

When The Goan specially asked the DGP whether a rape matter in Quepem is the motive behind the attack on the history-sheeter, the top police officer said that the media will be briefed as and when police investigations in the case are completed. “The media will come to know the motive behind the incident,” he said.

He also reviewed the plans to construct a new building for the Fatorda police station at the existing location after demolition of the old PWD quarters.

Meanwhile, teams constituted by the Goa Police were on the job in search of the remaining assailant, who have gone into hiding after launching the attack on the victim.

Police in the know said the police are on the look out of the accused, who had fired at Tiger Anwar, from a firearm.

The bullet had pierced on the thigh of the victim, leaving him incapacitated when the rival gang attacked him near the Arlem traffic circle on the Eastern bypass earlier this week.
